My Spanish Family

Let me tell you a little about my family. My parents were born in the South of Spain; my father (Diego) in a small town called Navas de San Juan, in the province of Jaen and my mother (Consuelo) in Olivares, in the province of Granada. After the civil war, the south of Spain suffered tremendously, and it was hard to find jobs so both families moved to Zaragoza. My parents were very very young when my grandparents moved to Zaragoza, but they still remember the small towns where they were born.

My grandparents were very very poor so neither of my parents were able to get any higher education or high school. My grandfather from my dad side died when my father was a baby running away from the fascist military during the war. My father had to start working at 14 years old to sustain my grandmother who was handicap, he was the youngest of 5. My grandparents from my mother side moved a lot, working on the construction of dams, but they finally settle down in Zaragoza.

My parents met on my mother's 19th birthday party. My father used to use some of his spare time to play the mandolin on a traditional Spanish "Jotas" band; his best friend Jaime played with him. Their dear friends Jaime and Nati dated at the same time, you will meet them both in Berdejo, they are neighbors. My father is retired and he is passionate about anything related to Berdejo; if it was not for my mother he would live in Berdejo full time. Between my dad and my mom they run Steve's house as a Rural house. My mom has been a home wife all her life and she has always taken wonderful care of my father and her kids. Her cooking is out of this world!!!

I have two brothers, the oldest (the smartest) is Javier. He is the brain of the family, he has a business degree and recently purchased a company in the wine country in Logroño; they make fancy boxes for expensive wines. He speaks very good English, better French, a little Italian. He is married to Mabel, wonderful girl (we still don't get how he got her) and they have two great smart kids, Marcos (7?) and Alvaro (3?). I am the middle. My younger brother is the revel of the family, Diego. He is an awesome guy. He has a web programming degree and he is allergic to work commitments and mortgages. He climbs!!! That is it. He designs his life to be able to climb and not have many attachments. He had a bad climbing accident last year and broke 2 vertebrae, he was lucky; he has recovered almost 100%. Right now he is living in an island in the Mediterranean but he is moving back to the main land. He is coming the states in September to climb in Yosemite.

I am sure you will get to know all my family, they are awesome. My parents do not speak English; my brothers are both fluent; Mabel can understand a lot, but she has a hard time speaking; Marcos is fluent on French and is learning a little English; Alvaro will talk you to death whether you understand him or not, not really sure what language.
